IRISH LEAGUE: Rodney McAree demands better from his Dungannon Swifts

An angry Swifts boss looked on his side lost 2-0 to Glenavon without a fight and McAree says that is totally unacceptable.

“All I manager demands is hard work and commitment and we got none of those last week. Maybe we still had a hangover from our Irish Cup quarter-win and the 120 minutes it took to get the win but our performance was unacceptable.

“I have 21 players to pick from because we are free of suspensions and injuries - so all of them have a job on to convince me that they start in the Irish Cup semi-final.

“Usually when a manager has a fully fit squad to pick from it makes his job difficult - but my job is easier after seeing what happened last weekend,

“I still want to finish seventh in the league - as that is our bread and butter - and the lads better perform as there are Cupm places up for grabs,” said McAree.

The Swifts and the Reds have not been in the best of form in recent weeks but McAree knows to expect a hard afternoon at the office.

“In terms of the form teams in the lead, the two of us must be near the bottom - but they are a very good side and are alwayd difficult to play against.

“They have also brought George McMullan into their coaching set-up and that will give them a lift. It will not be easy but we want the three points as we still are aiming to finish seventh.”

And reds boss Gerard Lyttle is delighted to have McMullan back on board.

“Recent performances haven’t been good enough and there isn’t a day that goes by where we don’t examine how we can improve.

“We’re always striving to be better in every aspect of what we do, both in terms of the playing side of things and what we do as coaches, which is why I’m very pleased to bring George on board.”
