Joe Dodoo determined to make an impact after move to Rangers

The youngster came on after an hour against East Stirlingshire at Ochilview on Friday evening and scoring the third goal in the dying stages of a comfortable 3-0 win.

Joe could scarcely have been any happier as he enthused over his introduction to Scottish Football.

“It was fantastic to score on my debut. I was happy to get thirty minutes in my first game and it was really good getting to know my team-mates. I enjoyed the game and to get a goal and a win was great,” he said.

“You always have to think you’re going to score as a striker - you have to think you are going to get a goal if you have keep making the runs and hope the ball comes to you.

“If you work hard for the team and get the goals then the wins will come. We have quality throughout the team.”

For any youngster arriving at a new club far from home the prospect of strange faces and surroundings can be daunting – but Dodoo felt at ease.

“My family are back in Ghana but I feel like I’ve fitted right in, I still have to get to know my team-mates because I am a little bit younger but it is a great start for me. The other players have made it easy for me to settle in.”

Joe made four appearances for Leicester City last season during that club’s Premier League-winning campaign, netting four goals – three against Bury and one against West Ham United in Carling Cup-ties.

He added; “It’s a new team for me and a new style of play. I’ve come here to work hard and to compete for a place in the team.

“I need to play. Rangers are a big club – I’m here to give the team something different.”

With three wins on the spin the Ibrox men are in a strong position to win Group F as the new arrival recognised.

“It would be great to win the group, we came here and were professional about it, worked really hard and got the job done. Everybody wants to win trophies and as a footballer there is nothing better - so to do that this season would be great.”

A debut in the shadow of the Ochil Hills is far removed from a packed Ibrox Stadium – but the new arrival was relaxed at the venue whilst looking forward to the home game with Stranraer on Monday evening.

He continued; “It made no difference making my debut here at Ochilview because the fans were just as loud as at Ibrox.

You have to have the same mentality no matter where you are playing because that is part of the job.

“Now I am off the mark and confident inside and looking forward to the next game at Ibrox. and I can kick on from there. Hopefully I will start on Monday – that would be good.”

Meanwhile, Josh Windass may be rested for the visit of Stranraer after limping off at half-time with a tight hamstring but Joey Barton is likely to feature after missing the victory at Ochilview.

Mark Warburton’s only other absentee is Windass’ former Accrington team-mate Matt Crooks (ankle).
