Kenny Miller admits to '˜mixed feelings' as Rangers see off Dundee at Dens Park

Harry Forrester and Miller put the Light Blues two goals ahead against Paul Hartley’s men, and Rangers had chances to extend their lead.

But when they failed to take them, that allowed the Dark Blues back into the contest and Mark O’Hara took his opportunity to head home from a corner late in the first half.

“It was a crucial win – it was vital we took all three points,” Miller said.

“We always set out to put a performance on and send the fans home happy, and I felt in the first half we definitely did that.

“We played well but missed a chance when I was through one-on-one just before they scored. I should have done better with it – and that would probably have killed the game off. In truth, I should have been coming in at the end of the first half with a few more.

“We should have been three or four up in the first half, the chances we had were very, very good and there was a combination of bad finishing and good defending. Some of the stuff we played was fantastic. It’s a great win – and we are absolutely delighted to get our first League win of the season – but we will go away and look at it.”

Miller was honest enough to concede that the second half was something of a grind to secure all three points.

“There will be times this season when we need to win ugly, but hopefully we can keep that to a minimum,” he added.

“We’ve won when we were not at our best. Their goal definitely affected us. To concede it from a set-play was disappointing. Even at 2-1, we should be coming out and showcasing what we’re about in that second half, and we didn’t do that. We want to be coming out and playing the way we play, and had we done that in the second half, there’s no doubt we would have won the game a lot more comfortably.

“The way the game went the feeling is one of relief. There’s no doubt that towards the end of the game we were hanging on. We knew the significance of coming up here and getting the three points as we didn’t want to drop any more after the disappointment of last week. To have started the League without a win in the first two games would have been a disaster, but we’ll get stronger as the season goes on.”
