Linfield manager David Healy insists Europa League tie with Cork City is far from over

The Blues put in a good shift against a talented Cork side in the first leg, but a Sean Maguire penalty has given Cork a lead in the race to face Swedish club BK Hacken in the next round.

But Healy is sure - now that his side have another weeks training behind them - can get the job done.

““We are still very much in the tie,” Healy told Linfield’s website.

“It was disappointing to lose at home but we created enough half-chances and young Paul Smyth probably should have scored in the first half.

“It’s an extra week’s fitness under our belt and I am really looking forward to the tie.

“The players are also looking forward to it. We are right in the tie and we will be giving it a real go in Cork,” he added.

Jimmy Callagher and Sean Ward will miss the tie but Healy says he believes his squad is strong enough to get a result.

“We know what we have to do. We have to go down there and score an away goal.

“And I think we can do that because we have plenty of players in the team and the sqaud that are very capable of doing that.”

And Healy says taht even though they are trailing by a goal, he still believes that they can make it through to the next round of the competition.

““There is still great belief in the team and everyone involved and we known that if we go down their and show what we are capable of we will get something from the game.

“The players are well up for it and there should be a great atmosphere at the ground.

“It should be a good game and it should be a game thatn they relish,” said the Linfield manager.

And the former Northern Ireland international is sure that these matches will help his players prepare for the start of the new Irish League season.

“It is great preparation for the new season and it will help the lads with their fitness but we are more concerned about going down to Cork and giving it a real go.”

And Healy says the Blues - who lost in last season’s Irish Cup final to Glenavon - will bring in players during the summerm months.

“I can assure Linfield fans that we will be bringing players in. And I am not going to bring players to the club if I believe they won’t make the team.” said Healy.
