MANAGER'S VERDICT: Michael O'Connor dedicates win to fans after Glenavon end away day blues

Michael O’Connor beamed with delight after watching his side pick up a deserved three points against Bangor at Clandeboye Park.

It marked Glenavon’s first points on the road in the Premiership this term as their survival hopes took a positive turn.

Here’s what O’Connor had to say after the full-time whistle.

THOUGHTS ON THE WIN?

"I think we started the game really well.

"The first four minutes of the match, I don't think they got out of their own half, which set an intent.

"I think when (Nathaniel) Ferris won the first tackle, it sort of set the tone for the rest of the game.

"I know it's something as simple as that there, but I thought that set the tone.

"We changed shape today. We went a bit different shape wise. We tried to get two up top with Ferris and Fallsy (Conor Falls). We tried to get Paul McGovern and Peter Campbell in the team, so we went the 4-4-2 diamond.

"I think it worked. I think the first half definitely worked. I thought the second half, the first 10-15 minutes were a bit sloppy.

"We sort of got into a tit-for-tat where we were winning back and going long. I think once we got the second and third goal, it eased.

"I'm a bit disappointed to concede the way we did. I think it's massive to try and get clean sheets, but I can't fault the boys today.

"It's only three points at the end of the day, but it's something we really needed.

FALLS IMPACT:

"He's come through Huddersfield.

"He's been around their first team and he's made an appearance as well for them.

"He's got that pedigree. He's a top player. I think at Cliftonville, he wasn't getting in much. We just needed to get him in, get an arm around him and let him go out and show what he can do.

"He's getting better every week. I think people don't realise the work rate he puts in.

"You've seen today he put in an absolutely unbelievable shift even for the second goal. He's closed the centre-back and then the keeper down and won it back and scored the goal.

"Everyone put a shift in today. It was important that we went back to basics this week in training. We worked hard this week in training and it showed today.

ENDING AWAY DAY WAIT:

“We've been so close a couple of times since I've came in winning away from home.

"We deserved that today...but it's more of the fans to be honest.

"Obviously, we're happy in there, but the fans every away game, they're coming in numbers and they're getting behind the team. That win today was for them.
