Mark Warburton hails Dean Shiels after Rangers beat Livingston

The Northern Ireland interntional helped his side to a comfortable victory and Warburton was impressed.

“Dean gives us dynamism, energy and quality - so it’s important to bring that into the game when we can by bringing him on.”

The Ibrox Boss also revealed that Shiels almost had a compatriot for company during the second-half.

“We’d have liked to have got Jordan Thompson and Harry Forrester on in the game - but we only have the three substitutes.”

One surprise inclusion at the weekend was substitute goalkeeper Cammy Bell who has been out injured all season. Mark explained his inclusion.

“He’s came back in to training and working in the gym very hard. He knows he has a lot of work ahead of him but it’s great to see him back.”

Meanwhile midfielder Nicky Law has also made a welcome return in recent weeks to action following a prolonged absence through injury.

“I thought I was doing quite well and then I picked up the injury which kept me out for nine or ten weeks, which was frustrating.

“I came back in for the Falkirk game and went straight into the biggest game of the season against Hibernian, so that gave me a lot of confidence. However there are players on the bench looking to take that place from me so I need to be at my best.

“Personally, I am pleased with how I am doing and we’ve managed to create a little bit of a gap so that’s good.”

Rangers have now won four consecutive games following the defeat at Falkirk just before Christmas – netting nineteen goals in the process – and Nicky was keen to put earlier setbacks in some form of perspective.

“I think you can have bad spells during the season - we knew we had three or four bad weeks.

“The standards we had set were so high and I don’t think it’s possible to keep that up for the whole season. Unfortunately, it resulted in some bad results for us.

“The Hibs game was massive. It has given us renewed confidence and we are scoring goals and are playing some really good stuff. Overall we are delighted.”

With the January transfer window remaining open for another couple of weeks speculation naturally continues to mount regarding potential new arrivals at the club, particularly with St. Johnstone’s Michael O’Halloran have been left out of his side’s game at the weekend. Law however was comfortable with the squad as it presently stands.

“We feel the squad is more than good enough to go on and win this League. Obviously, the manager feels we need one or two more.

“That will only help with competition for places and at a club this size you need that. Hopefully, it will help us get over the line and get what we all wanted to achieve at the start of the season.

“There’s a great team spirit here and we all know we’re in it together and the long game for us is to win the title. The lads who aren’t playing are disappointed, but they are cheering us on. We are all focused on one goal. Any new boys will be welcome into the group.”
