Mark Warburton hopes Rangers side are learning from their mistakes

The Championship title was won almost four weeks ago, but recent form and results have been far from impressive following the historic Scottish Cup defeat of Celtic.

Whilst it was perhaps understandable that a reaction followed that monumental Hampden effort, no-one surely expected the slump in form that has been displayed during the past two outings against the two bottom clubs in the division.

Mark Warburton, however, underlined the achievements of his side whilst recognising that standards have slipped in recent weeks.

“In a 10 or 11-day period they won the League against Dumbarton, won the Challenge Cup at a packed Hampden and a week later delivered a tremendous performance against the number one team in the country,” he said.

“They have dealt with the pressure and expectation really well, won two trophies and got through to a cup final.

“You only learn from mistakes. We made them the other night and were sloppy in possession and didn’t penetrate. We have to talk about it as a group and if we don’t learn from the bad times then we have a problem. I would be more concerned by a lack of effort or application than I would by anything else.”

Meanwhile no fewer than five Ibrox players have been named in the Championship Team of the Year – Lee Wallace, James Tavernier, Jason Holt, Barrie McKay and Martyn Waghorn.
