Crusaders confirm loan signing of former Cliftonville and Larne winger from Dungannon Swifts

Crusaders have confirmed the arrival of former Larne winger Thomas Maguire on loan from Dungannon Swifts until the end of this season.

The 26-year-old previously spent time on the books of Cliftonville and Warrenpoint Town, while Maguire also enjoyed a spell in America.

He joined Dungannon in 2023 and racked up 75 Premiership appearances, scoring five goals, including one earlier this season as the Swifts picked up a first league win away at Glenavon in September having lost their opening five matches.

Maguire was an unused substitute as Rodney McAree’s side secured historic Irish Cup glory by beating Cliftonville in last season’s final and started only five league matches this term.

He handed in a transfer request at Dungannon earlier this week as Maguire searched for “more playing time” away from Stangmore Park.

Maguire has now joined Crusaders on a temporary basis, becoming Declan Caddell’s latest January arrival following Scottish defender Cameron Bruce, and could be seen as a direct replacement for Ross Clarke, who joined Glentoran on Thursday alongside Jarlath O’Rourke.

Crusaders posted: “Crusaders FC are delighted to confirm the loan signing of Thomas Maguire from Dungannon Swifts until the end of the season.

“The 26-year-old joins the squad ahead of tomorrow’s game against Linfield, adding further strength to Declan Caddell’s side.

“The club would like to place on record our thanks to Dungannon Swifts and Rodney McAree for their cooperation in making this move possible.”
