Crusaders transfer 'was an easy decision' for former Larne and Dungannon Swifts winger
Thomas Maguire insists “it was an easy decision” to join Crusaders on a permanent basis – and now wants to “help bring success”.
Maguire arrived at Seaview on loan from Dungannon Swifts in January and played an important part in preserving the club’s Premiership status, scoring the winner in Crusaders’ 3-2 promotion/relegation play-off first-leg victory over Annagh United.
Declan Caddell’s men ultimately defeated their Championship opponents on penalties after the tie had ended 4-4 on aggregate.
Maguire previously spent time on the books of Cliftonville, Warrenpoint Town and Larne, while the 26-year-old also enjoyed a spell in America.
He joined Dungannon in 2023 and racked up 75 Premiership appearances and was an unused substitute as the Swifts secured historic Irish Cup glory in 2025.
With Crusaders keen to trigger their option to acquire Maguire permanently, the winger admits it was a simple call to sign a two-year deal.
"I'm delighted to make my move to Crusaders permanent,” he said. “From the moment I arrived in January, I felt at home at the club.
"The players, staff and supporters made me feel incredibly welcome and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
"It was an easy decision when the opportunity came to stay. The manager and coaching staff have shown great belief in me and I'm excited to be part of what we're building at Crusaders.
"I can't wait to get started again and hopefully help bring success to the club in the seasons ahead."
It has been a busy start to the summer transfer window for Crusaders with Maguire joined by Graham Kelly and Scottish striker Aaron Reid.
"Thomas settled into the group straight away and made a real impact during his loan spell,” said Caddell. “He brought quality and energy to the team and demonstrated exactly the type of character we want at this football club.
"We were delighted to have the option to make the move permanent and we're pleased to get the deal completed.
"Thomas knows the club, understands our expectations and we're looking forward to seeing him continue his development in a Crusaders shirt over the next two years.”
