Dungannon Swifts confirm permanent signing of former Luton Town striker

Dungannon Swifts have confirmed the permanent signing of academy product Sam Anderson from Luton Town.

Anderson came through the ranks at Loughgall and Stangmore Park before earning a move to Luton, who were then in the Premier League, in the summer of 2023.

Northern Ireland youth international Anderson featured in the FA Youth Cup and Premier League Cup for Luton.

The 19-year-old signed a professional contract at Kenilworth Road last year and returned to Dungannon on loan ahead of the current campaign to gain senior experience.

Having played three times for Rodney McAree’s side in the Premiership this season – the most recent of which came in a 2-0 away defeat to Cliftonville in November – Anderson has now signed a permanent deal with the Co Tyrone club.

It’s the latest piece of January transfer business conducted by the Swifts following the returns of Shea Gordon and Corey Smith.

"Sam is no stranger to Stangmore Park, having come through the Dungannon Swifts youth ranks, where he spent several important years developing before earning a permanent move away to Luton Town FC,” the club posted. “Since returning on loan, Sam has shown exactly what he brings to the squad, commitment, quality, and a clear understanding of what it means to wear the Swifts shirt.

“It’s always special to welcome back a player who knows the club so well, and we’re delighted that Sam has now committed his future to Dungannon Swifts on a permanent basis.

"His journey reflects both his own hard work and the strength of our youth pathway, and we’re excited to see him continue his development here.”

Elsewhere, Bangor have confirmed the departures of Tom Mathieson and Paul Osew.
