Fans pay tribute to Michael O’Neill across social media
O’Neill was appointed manager of Stoke City last November but still scheduled to take charge of Northern Ireland’s Euro 2020 qualifying play-offs.
However, the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a revision of the international football calendar and, therefore, confirmation by O’Neill of his departure.
Here we take a look at some of the social media reaction:

Hide AdThank you for everything. What a job done. Some amazing games/trips/experiences that I never thought I would get following @NorthernIreland when I started in the late 80’s when we were lucky if 3k people watching. You couldn’t give tickets away. Now get big Tommy Wright in

Lovely guy, he did so much for us. He has spoken of coming back when he’s older, he might well do. I’ll support any club he manages.

Not gonna lie, I’m gutted.

We knew this day was coming but it doesn’t make it any easier. Cheers for everything MON

It can’t be underestimated how much Michael O’Neill has done for @NorthernIreland. Not to mention the work off the pitch battling the FAI, he’s dragged us up the rankings and but for a bit of bad luck, we’d be headed to our 3rd tournament under him. Cheers and good luck Michael.

Feel sorry for Northern Ireland fans as I know they loved him. As a Stoke fan i’m so happy. The turnaround in our club since he has joined has been brilliant.
@stardorman
Done a fantastic job with NI and more than deserves a crack at decent club football.

What a job Michael O’Neill did. Brought the pride and the passion back. The successor needs to be afforded the same support and patience that he got. Immensely tough job, particularly with the two best players at the end of their careers #GAWA #ThankYouMichael
