Former Irish League club appoint new manager before 'opting to forfeit' cup clash
Banbridge Town chairman David Maxwell believes Ronnie Haughey is the perfect person to lead the club forward after returning as head coach at Crystal Park.
Following Robbie Rock’s resignation last month, Banbridge had been on the hunt for a new chief and opted for a familiar face in Haughey, who they’ve described as a “Town Hall-of-famer”.
Haughey has previously enjoyed spells as a manager and coach at Banbridge and also spent time in charge of Rathfriland Rangers.
His first match is set to be Saturday’s Bob Radcliffe Cup clash with Tandragee Rovers before hosting NAFL Premier Division outfit Ards Rangers in the Irish Cup second round the following weekend.

Banbridge are navigating their way through tough times after the club revealed its existence was at threat last summer due to financial trouble.
They lost 24 of 26 Premier Intermediate League matches last season and are winless across the opening four games of this term.
Banbridge also “opted to forfeit” Tuesday’s Mid Ulster Senior Cup clash at Armagh City.
The Co Down club will hope Haughey can make an instant impact as they look to transform their fortunes and Maxwell is confident they’ve found the best solution to fill the managerial vacancy.
“Myself and other club officials have worked tirelessly to make an appointment as Head Coach at the club,” Maxwell said on the club’s social media channels. “But that couldn’t just be anyone, it had to be the right one. And we believe we have that in Ronnie.
“We are delighted that Ronnie has agreed to return to Banbridge Town, we are all fully aware of what he can bring to the club along with his wealth of experience in developing young players.”
