Friendship on hold as Coleraine and Motherwell face off

They may be good mates off the pitch but Oran Kearney says his friendship will be put on hold for the duration of tonight’s Europa League second qualifying round clash at The Showgrounds.

Coleraine entertain Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell with the Bannsiders hoping to follow up their excellent win over NK Maribor in the previous round with another victory.

Robinson and Kearney have built up a great friendship down the years, but the focus is on tonight is on their own team progressing to the next round.

“That’s football. It’s the same in our own league all the managers have friendship and respect, but the minute, but the minute the ball goes over the line we all fight our own corner for that period of time,” said Kearney in last night’s pre-match press conference.

“Tomorrow night will be no different. There’s a big mutual respect there, but as a club we’re in uncharted territory and we’ve made progress and the last couple of weeks have given everyone a real taste for it.

“I don’t think they want it to stop and it’s about going out again and making sure that we hit that level and we give ourselves a chance.”
