Glenavon put a dent in Glentoran’s title hopes

The Lurgan Blues fought back from Ruaidhri Donnelly’s first half strike to take all three points with goals in the final 20 minutes from Robert Garrett and Matthew Fitzpatrick.

The opener arrived for Glentoran on 24 minutes but the hosts were not happy.

Glenavon felt there was a handball in the build up as Conor McMenamin took the ball down the left-hand side before he teed Donnelly up for a tap in.

The game was turned on its head with 20 minutes to go.

First Garrett levelled things up with a spectacular strike from 25 yards.

And three minutes later Glenavon edged in front as Fitzpatrick fired home from six yards.

Larne broke the deadlock at the Loughshore Hotel Arena inside 11 minutes as Andy Mitchell fired home from the spot after Mark Randall was sandwiched between Kyle Cherry and Caolan Loughran.

But the big defender made amends for the hosts as he slotted home a penalty of his home.

Lloyd Anderson drew the foul from Albert Watson and Loughran stepped up to do the rest.

Parity didn’t last long though as Larne retook the lead on 34 minutes as John Herron forced home Graham Kelly’s centre.

With 14 minutes to go Lee Lynch had an effort blocked by Aaron Hogg before Conor McKendry’s follow up was saved.

Larne wrapped up the win two minutes into stoppage time as Lynch won the ball in midfield before releasing McKendry, who coolly slotted home.

Warrenpoint Town shared the points with Ballymena United at Milltown.

It was the visitors who scored first and what a goal it was. Jude Winchester fed Joe McCready, who produced an excellent curling finish to beat Sava.

The hosts got themselves back on level terms on 37 minutes as Adam Carroll headed home from a corner.

Both sides pushed for a winner in the second half but neither really created anything clear cut as the honours finished even.
