Warrenpoint Town have been dealt a blow with the news that on-loan striker Thomas Maguire has broken his fibula.

The Cliftonville forward, who joined the 'Point during the January transfer, suffered the injury in a training session last Saturday.

It is a huge blow to the player, who made the switch to Milltown to try and get regular football for the remainder of the season, and he scored a spectacular goal in the recent draw with Dungannon Swifts.

It's also a blow to Barry Gray s side, who had been targeting the forward for a while now.

"Obviously he's a player we targeted and wanted to bring in during the January window," explained Gray after Saturday's defeat at Coleraine.

"We tried to bring him in last summer but it didn't work out.

"He's a player that can make an impact, especially in a game like today's when you're chasing the game, he would have been a great option, even off the bench for the last half hour.

"He's proved in the two games he has played in for us he would give us that option.

"We had high hopes he would bed in quickly, it's one of those things, it was just a pure fluke accident.

"Unfortunately for him, forgetting about us, he was coming to get substantial game time between now and the end of the season, but now it looks like he's not going to get anything.

"It will be six weeks before he can come back and do any training."

The player is determined to come back stronger from his injury.

He posted on his Facebook page: "Gutted to have broken my fibula. But I’m ready for the challenge ahead to come back better."
