A statement by the Northern Ireland Football League confirmed “all twelve Premiership clubs continue to work together to find an agreeable solution to the 2019/2020 season”.

It also stated that the “Premiership clubs will reconvene for a further meeting over the weekend with a view to finalising a proposal for the NIFL Board on Monday 22 June”.

The view that negotiations now stand as “positive” will offer encouragement following weeks of talks that recently featured a rejection by senior clubs of the NIFL Steering Group proposals - centred on two additional fixtures to reach 33 games or the application of a mathematical model - with division then developing within the Premiership set-up over the teams’ subsequent options.

This week’s UEFA Executive Committee meeting confirmed the August 3 deadline for the Irish FA to nominate three teams into the European club competition process.

One issue over negotiations centres on the division of any UEFA money beyond the three qualifying clubs across the top flight.

A resolution to the Bluefin Sport-backed Championship and Premier Intermediate League campaigns remains on hold, although it is understood that a mathematical model will be applied.
