Jim Magilton gives red card verdict and predicts bright Cliftonville future for 'really good player'

Cliftonville extended their unbeaten Premiership run to seven matches after a thrilling 5-2 win over Glenavon on Saturday.

Jack Keaney’s brace alongside goals from Eric McWoods, Joe Sheridan and Jonny Addis helped deliver maximum points.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the second half following Odhran Casey’s dismissal.

Here’s what manager Jim Magilton said after the match:

SEVEN UNBEATEN IN THE LEAGUE – MOMENTUM BUILDING?

"Yeah, it is. There was a lot said about maybe the second half performance against Glentoran last week, but it was generally unjustified given the week we'd had and the effort these lads have put in and the fantastic attitude and application they give every game.

"Today was an important fixture for us because it's a home fixture against a team that are bottom of the table, so all expectations are on us to win the game.

"It was important that we actually went out and won the game. You have to credit Glenavon for that...they kept going.”

SCORING SO EARLY WRECKS THEIR GAME PLAN – GREAT TIME TO SCORE FOR YOU?

"You have to credit Glenavon, they showed character in their side.

"You know, the first goal we concede is not a good goal from our point of view, poor defensively.

"Second one's a worldie and you just have to hold your hands up to that. But, overall, I’m just really pleased that we went 3-2 up.

"We regrouped and then we have to do it again because Casey gets sent off.

"I thought the subs made a massive impact for us and kept the momentum and the impetus in the game for us. And then Jack Keaney steps up again.”

WHAT DID YOU MAKE OF CASEY’S TWO YELLOW CARDS – DO YOU’VE ANY COMPLAINTS?

"Yeah, I have.

"I think once she gives the first one, then she has no choice with the second one.

"I don't think she gives herself an option, Louise (Thompson, referee). It doesn't help that, and I suppose we would have done it too, Glenavon lads are all around her.

“Albeit that shouldn't influence the decision, but it kind of does now, and Casey has to go...he just has to go.

"It’s disappointing for him because he's been outstanding this year and he's going to miss a game.”

JOE SHERIDAN REAL GOALSCORING THREAT FROM MIDFIELD?

"He's going to be a really good player, there's no question about that.

"He's learning in the games, which is even more important for him. Joe has got real potential and we're going to look after him, we're going to nurture him.

"We're going to bring him in and out when it's necessary, but he deserves to play and he's doing great.”

GREAT FOR A MANAGER TO SEE GOALS FROM DEFENCE, MIDFIELD AND ATTACK TODAY?

"Yeah, it is. We would like someone to be more prolific.

“We've been coming in for a bit of stick because in certain games we've been maybe lacking goals from centre-forwards, but if you can get an even spread or spread from your defenders and from your midfield players.

"We want more goals from midfield players. Given the quality of midfield players that we have, I think there's more goals in them.

"At the moment, it's about continuing this upward trend and this momentum we've got.”

FIRST LEAGUE GOAL FOR ERIC – PLATFORM TO BUILD ON?

"Yeah. If you've seen any of our games, he creates devastation in opposition boxes and he's just been unlucky with his finishing.

"He just probably needs to calm down a little bit. But, I thought he took his goal really, really well today.”
