Linfield confirm exit of winger who makes Scotland return after less than 12 months in Irish League

Linfield have confirmed the departure of Callumn Morrison with the winger joining Scottish Championship outfit Dunfermline Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

Morrison joined the Blues from Falkirk less than 12 months ago and made 26 Premiership appearances, scoring four goals, and was part of their title-winning squad last term.

Dunfermline, who are managed by former Northern Ireland international Neil Lennon, were first credited with transfer interest in Morrison last month and have now secured his return to Scotland.

Morrison’s exit comes a matter of hours before Linfield host Premiership leaders Larne at Windsor Park - a defeat would see them fall 19 points behind the Inver Reds.

A statement from the Blues read: “Linfield Football Club can confirm that Callumn Morrison has completed a transfer to Dunfermline Athletic FC for an undisclosed fee.

“We would like to place on record our thanks to Callumn for his contribution during his time at Windsor Park. Everyone at the club wishes him every success in his future career.”

Morrison previously helped Falkirk seal League One title glory – he was named Player of the Year for his contribution after finishing top of the goalscoring charts, netting 23 times in 32 appearances.

The 26-year-old was a long-term target of Linfield with manager David Healy saying “it's no secret that Callumn is a player we have admired and attempted to sign for some time” upon his arrival last February.

Morrison has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Dunfermline and could potentially make his debut on Saturday as Lennon’s men host Hibernian in the Scottish Cup.
