Liverpool sign former Irish League goalkeeper Liam Hughes

Liam Hughes, the Northern Ireland under 21s goalkeeper and former Irish League player, has made a move from Celtic to Liverpool.

Hughes was confirmed by the defending Premier League champions as part of Liverpool’s transfer deadline day activity.

The 19-year-old made his Irish League debut between the posts for Portadown across the 2015/16 campaign before signing professional terms at Dungannon Swifts.

In February 2018 he joined Glasgow giants Celtic and featured in the following year’s Scottish Youth Cup final as part of progress up the club ranks that included first-team matchday squad selection.

Hughes is expected to feature in Liverpool’s under 23s set-up.
