Kane, who switched to The Oval from Linfield back in 2012, is looking forward to the challenge of full time football.

“I’m over the moon. I’ve been trying to push that way with the club, I’m glad to be along for the ride and I can’t wait to get started with the boys full-time now,” he told the club website.

“I think for myself to get into training every day and push myself on a professional level, just to keep up with the boys coming to the club, is important.

“You can see in our pre-season games we like to play football, we’ve been scoring goals and doing our best to keep them out at the other end as well. You can see the difference in our fitness.

“If you go back to the Irish Cup it was an extreme situation to be in, those two games in five days really pushed the players.

“You could see the difference when the boys came in from across the water or down south, they were a bit sharper.

“I’ve always said if you have fit players in your team the fittest will always drag the other boys’ levels up.”

The Irish Cup holders have been busy in the transfer market and Kane feels that competition for places will be crucial in their bid to win more trophies this term.

“Competition for places can only be a good thing.

“You want to have people challenging for places to push each other every week.

“The squad we have definitely has that in abundance, and hopefully that can push us up to a position where we are challenging for the league.

“I said after the cup win that I wanted to be here and move forward with the club and win more silverware.

“Everytime I go into a game with a Glentoran jersey on I want to win for Glentoran, I want to secure silverware, and it’s the same again this season. Hopefully now the league gets up and running, we’re ready for it!”

Meanwhile, the club’s longest serving first team player, Elliott Morris, has also signed a full-time contract that will take him up to at least the 20th anniversary of him arriving at the Oval.

His role will primarily as Goalkeeper Coach to the first team, but he will also be available for selection if needed.
