They face a Larne side who have one point from their last three games.

They went down 2-1 at home to Coleraine on Tuesday night but McDermott knows that will count or nothing come this evening.

“It’s always a tasty fixture against Larne,” he said.

“We’ve had six or seven games against Larne since I’ve come to Glentoran and they’ve always been feisty affairs. We are the only team they haven’t scored against this year.

“We drew with them in the league and it finished scoreless in the Co Antrim Shield final.

“Looking back, I though we could have won the league game at our place.

“We took control of the game for the last 20 minutes.

“We know what they do, Larne are a possession-based team – the like to dominate play.

“If you let them get into their rhythm they can hurt you.

“If they are on their game, they will hurt you.

“If we are on our game, we can hurt them.

“I think we are in for a good game.

“It will be their third game in six days so there could be some tired legs, whereas it will be our second match.

“We’ll likely have to rotate the squad.

“We’ll have Jay Donnelly out suspended, while Paul O’Neill sustained a knee injury against Carrick, so we’ll assess him near kick off time.

“That’s why we have a squad, so we’ll deal with it.”

Larne boss Tiernan Lynch is hoping his side can find their rhythm again.

“Nobody wants to get back to winning ways more than the players, myself and the supporters, we’re all in it together,” he told the club website.

“We just have to keep working, you don’t become a bad team overnight and for us, it’s a matter of finding the rhythm again, continuing getting on the ball and playing, working as hard as we can, and it will fall back into place for us.”
