After a slow start to the season the Glens are now within touching distance of leaders Linfield

Two wins in a week over the Blues made it five wins on the spin for McDermott’s men, who now sit nine points off the top with two games in hand ahead of tonight’s visit to Carrick Rangers.

“I always knew would be in the title race,” said McDermott.

“I want us to have the best squad on the island and I think we are getting there.

“I knew it would take time for them to gel. We played well at the start of the season, but dropped some points.

“I knew we would start playing well and I knew we would click. We just have to keep going.

“We have now played 35 games at the Oval and lost only three since we took over – that’s not a bad return.

“We must go to Carrick ready. We can’t afford to drop points down there, especially after our result in midweek.

“The title race has now really opened up. I’m sure Coleraine were happy with our result against Linfield.

“This is now tournament football...a game every four days.

“When you win, it’s important to bring the boys back down again because there is another cup final on the horizon.

“It will be like that for the next few months.”
