Cliftonville’s Conor McDermott names his 10 favourite players and the reasons why...

PAUL SCHOLES - I grew up supporting Manchester United and in my younger days played centre-mid. Scholes was unbelievable and he got Man United playing week in, week out. He scored some cracking goals - and had a nasty side to him aswell (which is needed).

WAYNE ROONEY - Another Man United player. Rooney on his day was as good as anyone. His will-to-win and ability to score/create goals was a joke. He was on the back of every United top I got when I was younger!

STEVEN GERRARD - As much as it pains me to say - but Gerrard was arguably as good as Scholes. He drove his team week in, week out and probably deserved to be a Premier League winner! That night in Instabul summed him up.

SERGIO RAMOS - What a guy - cool as you like but what a defender. Three Champions League wins on the bounce for Real Madrid shows what type of player he is. Love him - especially in the El Clasicos against Barca.

ZINEDINE ZIDANE - Another Real Madrid player - my God he was special. I’ve yet to see a player make the game look so easy. Everything was at his pace, he just controlled games. A joy to watch.

THIERRY HENRY - A player who, when he played against Manchester United, I always feared. He could win a game in an instant. I hate him as well for what he did against Ireland (handball for France in 2009 World Cup play-off) - but I’ll let that slide because of how good he was.

NEMANJA VIDIC - In my opinion, he never got the recognition for just how good he was as a player. He was the rock at the back for Man United and he wanted to win every game, you could see how much it meant to him. He was aggressive, read the game superbly and even popped up with big goals. Unreal.

SEAMUS COLEMAN - When I started to play senior football I was turned into a full-back and always told to watch how Coleman played. A few years back, in his peak, he was outstanding. His runs forward offered so much for Ireland and Everton. Some engine!

CRISTIANO RONALDO - Words can’t really describe how good he is to be honest. His goal-scoring record is ridiculous and he has done it everywhere he has been. The way he looks after himself is unbelievable and he deserves everything good he gets. So many great memories - especially the header against Chelsea in the Champions League final for United - wow.

LIONEL MESSI - I have to put Messi in here. Between him or Cristiano Ronaldo it is literally the toss of a coin. Messi is obviously the more gifted footballer with more natural ability but you can’t take away the hard work he puts in also. His goals, assists, passes...everything - a joy to watch.
