Northern Ireland star 'still getting to know names' despite dream Stoke City debut
Northern Ireland’s Justin Devenny declared “I don’t think I could ask for much better” after scoring twice on Stoke City debut – despite revealing he’s still getting to know the names of his new team-mates following a deadline day move from Crystal Palace.
Devenny joined the Potters in a reported deal worth around £5million and was named in the starting line-up for Saturday’s 4-0 Championship win over Charlton Athletic.
It took the 22-year-old just 15 minutes to make his mark with Devenny calmly slotting home a penalty before further adding to his goal tally late in the first half.
Northern Ireland team-mate Ethan Galbraith also got in on the action, netting for a second consecutive league game.

Devenny enjoyed significant silverware success at Palace, winning the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League before leaving in search of more playing opportunities.
Versatile Devenny had only trained with his Stoke colleagues twice before their weekend triumph and is now determined to build on a successful first showing.
"Definitely, that’s (a whirlwind) the best way to describe it,” Devenny told BBC Radio Stoke. “It all moved so quickly.
"It has been one thing to the other but I think that’s the best way to be when you’re straight into the deep end.
"I seen the quality of players, the system suited me and I want to be playing games, playing week in, week out.
"That wasn’t the case at Palace so it was to come and build up my reputation because we want to be in the Premier League.
"I’ve only trained with the boys twice and I’m still getting to know their names at times, even the staff, but everyone has been brilliant and made me settle. It’s a great group full of great characters and hopefully I can add to that.
"I don’t think I could ask for much better (on debut)! I loved every minute of it.
"From the start of the game until I came off and even watching at the end, I had a smile on my face. It was an enjoyable start.
"I just seen my name up on the board as penalty-taker...as much as we hadn’t spoke about it, I knew if we had a penalty that I had a good record in the past and I was definitely putting my name forward.
"I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself, but I need to be setting targets for goals and assists...the aim is double figures and beyond.”
Devenny has a proven track record with penalties – he scored the decisive spot-kick in Palace’s Community Shield victory against Liverpool at Wembley – and Stoke manager Mark Robins had no doubts about entrusting his new signing with the responsibility.
"Part of the job is you’re looking at where the players are strong,” said Robins. “They asked me who was on penalties and I had no hesitation in saying Justin.
"He was really calm and cool in a situation where a lot of players could be overawed...he’s a calm boy and it’s a really good start.”
