The Glens are the form team in the division at the minute with three wins on the bounce.

With the top two faltering of late the Oval outfit have closed the gap.

They find themselves 12 points off leaders Linfield with two games in hand following Tuesday night’s dramatic late win over the Blues.

And with another ‘Big Two’ meeting scheduled for next week assistant manager Paul Millar knows things can change very quickly.

“I think that shows how competitive the league is and because we are playing the amount of games we are we said a lot can change in the next week,” said Millar.

“We were looking at Saturday when we didn’t play and Linfield drew with Coleraine we said if we win tonight we are back in the mix.

“If we lose against Dungannon Saturday we are not.

“Linfield play Larne on Friday and then play us on Tuesday but we just have to look after ourselves.”

The Glens face playing another 21 league games over the next three months.

And Millar says the importance of the squad they have built will now come into play.

“It is hard keeping everyone happy but we have a big squad for a reason,” he said.

“For years Linfield here had a great squad.

Glentoran I always thought had the best team but Linfield had the best squad where they could carry an injury here or there.

“We have worked hard recruiting players.

“I think Jay Donnelly is probably the best centre forward in the league, Robbie McDaid’s average for Glentoran is a goal every two games which is a great record.

“We signed Rhys Marshall. How we got him I don’t know and then we signed Conor McMenamin and yes we were disappointed Paul O’Neill left.

“Paul had to go for part of the deal. He wanted regular football and we couldn’t give him it.

“Larne offered money for Conor but Gerard (Lawlor) and Paddy (McLaughlin) wanted a player.”
