Rodney McAree fears key Dungannon Swifts duo could be out 'three or four weeks' after Irish Cup injuries

Dungannon Swifts took another step towards defending their Irish Cup crown after a 3-0 quarter-final victory over H&W Welders at Stangmore Park.

Steven Scott gave his side a first half lead before Cahal McGinty headed home after 64 minutes.

Larne loanee Kobei Moore added further gloss to the scoreline with a fine finish into the bottom corner – his first goal since joining Dungannon in the recent transfer window.

The Swifts have now set up a repeat of last season’s final against Cliftonville.

Here’s what McAree had to say after the match:

ANY UPDATE ON SHEA GORDON AND SEAN MCALLISTER AFTER LIMPING OFF?

"Shea’s is a hamstring injury and Sean is a quad injury...it'll be a case of seeing how it settles down and we'll assess them at the beginning of the week.

"I think they're pretty bad but not really bad, it looks probably three or four weeks anyway.”

GOOD DAY AT THE OFFICE – THREE GOALS AND CLEAN SHEET?

"Good day to get to another semi-final.

"I wasn't happy with the performance, wasn't happy with the performance levels, we can do so much better.

"It was as if we'd just done enough to win the game of football. There was always so much more in us.

"Having said that, we could have probably been a little bit better in the final third and scored more too.

"The Welders started well, caused a couple of problems early on and did ok at the start of the second half too.

"But overall, it just felt as if we could do a hell of a lot better.

"But it's cup football, it's about winning the game of football that’s in front of you and progressing to the next round. We said before the game, by hook or by crook, we'd be in the semi-final and that's how it panned out.”

CONFIDENT YOU HAD THE PLAYERS TO UNLOCK THE HIGH LINE?

"It's about being patient as well in terms of timing your run.

"Whenever they play the high line, it's very much a case of giving yourself half a yard and breaking the line that way and not being too eager.

"There were times we were too eager, but thankfully we got it right. I think we scored a couple of goals through getting in behind.

"We looked at the Welders massively, we watched numerous games, and we've seen that they didn't overly change.

"So we presumed that they would come here and do that. So it's nice that all the work that you put into it has paid off and you've got over the line.”

CLIFTONVILLE IN NEXT ROUND?

"I think we've played them numerous times over the past few years in the Irish Cup, obviously last year is fresh in everybody's mind.

"Cliftonville have been to the last two finals, they obviously enjoy the Irish Cup, so it's going to be a very difficult game as you'd expect.

"Whenever you see the four teams that’s left, maybe we were the team that teams would have preferred to get...that's not being disrespectful to them or disrespectful to ourselves, it's just the size of the clubs.

"But we've given ourselves an opportunity.

"We're one game away from a glorious day out and we have to do our best to try and get over the line.”
