McAree has been confirmed as the new first team coach at Warrenpoint Town replacing Robert McQuillan, who has stepped down from the post.
The 46-year-old had a successful spell in charge at Dungannon Swifts before taking over the reins at Coleraine, but left that position by mutual consent in May 2019.

Hide Ad'Point boss Barry Gray is delighted to have brought the highly-respected coach to Milltown.
He told the club website: "Rodney is a super addition to the senior staff. He will be a great asset to Gavin [Dykes] and I and we are really looking forward to getting going.
"Rodney has so much experience at premier league level as both a manager and coach, his knowledge and experience will be massive to me as we move forward with our preparations and progression with the new panel.
"We must also give thanks to the outgoing Robert McQuillan. Robert has played a vital role through the first team transformation over the last 12+ months."

The former Manchester United stopper left Linfield in 2019 before joining up with former international teammate Keith Gillespie at FC Mindwell who play in the Mid Ulster League.
But the 43-year-old is being linked with a move to Dungannon Swifts.
It would be something of a coup for Swifts boss Kris Lindsay to bring in the experienced keeper.
