The former Coleraine midfielder was drafted into the squad for Rover Championship clash with Rotherham United on Wednesday night.

He may not have sampled any action but Mowbray was more than happy for the 23-year-old to be part of the 20-,am squad.

"I think he warranted it," Mowbray told Lancs Live after the Rotherham victory.

"Obviously the numbers dictated it a little bit, to be honest. Tom Trybull was touch and go because he's been ill and I was a bit worried that the after effects of his illness might have drained him.

"I thought Brad deserved his chance. He's scored five goals in his last three or four games for the U23s. He's an absolute warrior.

"So we put him on the bench and he totally warranted it. Brad Lyons is a diamond of a kid who would run through a brick wall for anybody."

Lyons could be heading out on loan from Ewood Park with coaches currently assessing deals in order to aid his development.

He has been in sparkling form for the development squad scoring five goals in his last five games including a double against Liverpool at the weekend.
