Larne really couldn’t have asked for much more from their start to the new season.

Tiernan Lynch’s men have a 100 per cent record with two league wins out of two and progression to the semi-final of the County Antrim Shield secured.

They had to dig deep against east Antrim rivals Carrick Rangers to secure another three points last Saturday.

Josh Robinson, who joined the club in the summer, says it is all about picking up as many wins as possible at this stage of the season.

“We just want to keep ticking the games off and keep picking up the three points at this moment in time,” the central defender told the club website.

“Picking up wins now will go a long way as the season goes on and what we’re trying to do.

“It’s all about trying to pick up as many points as possible.

“I’m enjoying it but there’s a long way to go, I know that.

“We won’t get carried away as a team, and I won’t get carried away either.

“We will continue to work hard as a team every week.”

It is another east Antrim derby for Larne today as they host Ballymena United and Robinson is hoping the home support can help cheer them on to another victory.

“We have some massive games coming up now with Ballymena in the league and then Linfield in the Co Antrim Shield, but that’s what we’re striving for here,” he said.

“Hopefully as many fans as possible will be in Inver Park for those games because they were great at Carrick.

“It was fantastic for us to have them there, we need that.”

The Sky Blues slipped to a narrow defeat at home to Linfield last Saturday with boss David Jeffrey pleased with his side’s performance on the night.

“Obviously we would have liked at least a point, I thought our performance merited at least that,” he said.

“When I reflect though against Coleraine we had six new players in the starting line up, last Saturday it was five, and they are working tirelessly.

“Obviously you would have liked to get something out of the game, but you can’t be disappointed when you see the level of commitment.

“We knew how difficult the start was going to be playing the team that finished second last year and then playing the champions, two very good sides, and we’ve stood toe-to-toe with them.

“So I can’t be disappointed.

“I was very proud of the players for their effort and commitment and again some decent football.”
