Northern Ireland's venue for away assignment against Ukraine is now confirmed

The Irish Football Association has confirmed that Northern Ireland’s away game against Ukraine will be held at Štadión Antona Malatinského in Trnava, Slovakia.

Since Russia’s invasion of the country began, UEFA haven’t permitted Ukraine to host competitive international matches for security reasons.

As such, Northern Ireland fans had been waiting to see where the game would take place on Friday, October 2 this year.

The fixture against Ukraine will be Northern Ireland’s third Nations League match in a week after starting against Georgia (September 25, away) before hosting Hungary (September 28).

The Ukrainian national team have played home fixtures in various countries across Europe – all three of their 2026 World Cup qualifying group matches were staged in Poland while a play-off clash with Sweden was held in Valencia.

They’ve also played in the likes of Hungary, Czech Republic and Germany, and will now add Slovakia to the list ahead of the showdown with Northern Ireland later this year.
