Rangers captain James Tavernier could not hide his frustration at the loss of three crucial Premiership points at Livingston on Sunday afternoon.

“It’s disappointing. We’ve dropped three points and like last season these are the games you look back on and see the implications. We can’t come to places like Livingston and drop three points – these are the games we need to make sure we win.

“We have been terrific in certain weeks but we have to continue that and keep the momentum going.

“We should be going into every game looking for maximum points.”

The fullback did not mince his words as he reflected on what was by any reckoning a poor performance.

“In the final third as a team we weren’t good enough - we made enough chances but we didn’t test Liam Kelly in goal nearly enough and we didn’t get enough shots off.

“We kept good possession but we didn’t do enough with it. Then we switched off at their goal…”

His disappointment was magnified by the massive ‘Gers travelling support that comprised 75% of the 9,246 crowd.

“The fans should be disappointed - they turned out in their numbers to support us and we haven’t put on a good enough performance to back it up.

“Today wasn’t good enough - and we know that in the dressing-room.

“I only can apologise on behalf of the boys for the performance,” he added.

Next up for Rangers is the visit to Ibrox of Rapid Vienna on Thursday evening.

“We need to step it back up for the Europa League. It’s a massive night for us. We have to forget this one - we know it’s three massive points lost.”
