Rangers' Jason Holt taking nothing for granted as title surge continues

Nine games from home in the Championship race and with Rangers just five wins from clinching the title, it would be understandable if many at Ibrox are regarding automatic promotion as more or less a foregone conclusion.

Not so however as far as Jason Holt is concerned as he reflected on Tuesday’s 2-0 home win over Raith Rovers whilst taking in the news that nearest challengers Hibernian suffered defeat for a third consecutive game.

“We just look to do our own job. We have said from Day One this season that we would just take each game as it comes, “ he said.

“There are nine League games left and we’ll approach each one in the same manner as we did against Raith.

“We can only concentrate on ourselves and send the fans home happy. We’re enjoying the style of football we’re playing. Teams make it really hard for us but if we keep at it eventually the rewards will come.”

Tuesday’s 2-0 win was much more comfortable that the score-line would indicate with Jason himself, Andy Halliday and Billy King all outstanding. The midfielder was more than happy with the overall performance.

“Tonight, we looked to get the three points. We had a bright start which set the tone for the rest of the game.

“It was a really professional, controlled performance out there. We controlled large periods of the game and got our rewards. I think I did well personally tonight as well.”

Holt was full of praise for goal-scorers Harry Forrester and Lee Wallace.

“Harry came on and obviously scored the winner on Saturday and then grabbed another one against Raith so we are delighted for him,” he said.

“It was different class from Waldo too - he’s always up and down that line and to see him get his rewards was great.”

Next up for the Light Blues is the visit of Dundee to Ibrox on Saturday in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup - a challenge that Holt is looking forward to immensely.

“It’s a home tie at what I’m sure will be a packed Ibrox and it’s a game we’re really looking forward to.

“We are still in a few competitions and we’ll look to do well in every one of them. Every competition we’re in needs 100% focus. We daren’t switch off at all.”
