Rangers Kenny Miller looking forward to facing old friends in Scottish Cup

It will be a case of '˜Friends Reunited' in early-February when Rangers face Kilmarnock at Ibrox in the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup with the likes of Lee McCulloch, Kris Boyd and Steven Smith in the Ayrshire club's ranks.

For ‘Gers striker Kenny Miller the reunion is very much one to be savoured.

“It will be great to see the boys. I played against them a few times in my younger days - but it would be my first time playing against big Jig. I’m sure they’ll get a warm welcome back at Ibrox. I always keep my eye out for their result - Stevie has found himself in the centre of midfield a few times recently

“It’s a good draw and a home draw, so I know it’s a cliché but we’d have liked it to be at Ibrox and we’ve got that. There was a real prospect of us facing Premiership opposition - which we are - but it’s a game that we will be looking to win. ”

McCulloch may not actually play as he is principally involved in a coaching role at Rugby Park whilst still registered as a player.

The clash with Kilmarnock will be a rerun of last year’s fourth round meeting at Ibrox when Nicky Law netted twice in a 3-0 win for the Light Blues with Kris Boyd – now in the opposition camp – the other scorer. This will be the second time during the current campaign when Rangers have faced Premiership opposition, the first being in the Scottish League Cup when Tommy Wright’s St. Johnstone emerged 3-1 victors. Miller recognised that lessons must be learned from that defeat.

“We learnt a harsh lesson earlier in the season against St Johnstone – we maybe need to be a bit tighter on the counter attack and on the defensive side of our game. We could have played better - we probably didn’t create enough.”

chances that night. We’re a different team since that day. I think we have put that right in recent weeks, we don’t seem to be giving as many chances up and that is something we have been working on. We’ll be looking to build on the momentum of the past three games. As long we keep going the way we have been going then I think we will be OK against Kilmarnock.

“It’s a good draw and a home draw - I know it’s a cliché but we’d have liked it to be at Ibrox and we’ve got that. There was a real prospect of us facing Premiership opposition, which we are, but it’s a game that we will be looking to win. I’m sure it’s going to be a fantastic game.

“The Hibernian game came at the right time for us. I feel we’re back to the levels we enjoyed at the start of the season.”

Kenny was in no doubt that Rangers can win the Scottish Cup this season.

“When you play for this club you want to win every competition you enter. Of course it’s achievable for a Championship side to win the Scottish Cup - there have been teams in the final over the last five years so there is no reason why we can’t get there. Once you get to a Cup Final anything can happen, I have been both favourite and underdog in previous years - and every game has been tight with just the odd goal in it.

“We want to be back at Hampden on 21st May – but to do that we need to take care of this one first.”
