Rangers legend trolls SFA over Hall of Fame snub

Paul Gascogine sent a cheeky tweet to the the Scottish FA regarding the withdrawal of his nomination for the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.

The former England and Rangers midfielder was set to be inducted at a dinner this month until his nomination was pulled with concerns over his health.

The 51-year-old had his say on Monday, tweeting the SFA's official account a video of his famous goal for England against Scotland in Euro 96 with a simple message: "NO HARD FEELINGS xxxx".

He also tweeted Rangers' official account: “I played some of the best football in my career at Rangers, and loved the support of the fans.

“I don’t need to be in the Scottish Hall of Fame to be recognised as one of the best, I feel the love and the support of The People and know I was the best.

“Love you all, Gazza xxxx”

The SFA are not involved in the nominations for the Hall of Fame, instead inductees are selected by a panel of football and media personalities, and chosen from nominations by the general public.

However, it has been reported that some members of the SFA board were planning to boycott the dinner, which is set to take place on Sunday, 21 October, due to Gascoigne's history, citing previous instances of domestic abuse, racism and sectarianism.

A statement on behalf of the Scottish Football Hall of Fame read: “Further to consultation with the Chair and members of the Scottish Football Hall of Fame committee, due to a number of factors including ongoing enquiries, and concerns over the state of Paul’s health, it has been decided to withdraw the nomination of Paul Gascoigne at the time from this year’s nomination process.”

The decision was met with a backlash. Scottish legend Ally McCoist called it "embarrassing", while a petition protesting the withdrawal has garnered more than 16,000 signatures.
