Rangers’ Ianis Hagi linked to Real Madrid transfer

The Romanian international is currently on loan at Ibrox from Belgian side Genk having signed in January.

Hagi had made 12 appearances before football was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

He had netted three goals, including a memorable double against Braga in the Europa League as Rangers came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Ibrox.

The 21-year-old is seen as a possible transfer option for Real Madrid this summer as they make a tweak to their transfer policy, according to Don Balon.

Due to the economic uncertainty which the coronavirus has posed, the Spanish giants will look to sign young, promising talent rather than ready-made stars.

Hagi has a link with Real Madrid with his father Gheorghe having played for the side in the early-90s.

Don Balon report that the transfer is seen as risky but recognise his intelligence, his ability with two feet and flexibility in attacking positions.

Real Madrid are understood to be keen to sign him for €10million but note that they expect Rangers to take up the clause in their loan contract with Genk which is around £4million.

It could present the situation where Hagi is signed by Rangers and moved on at a profit of around £5million to the European giants.

Earlier this week, the player’s agent Giovani Becali claimed he had held talks with representatives from Spurs and Manchester City about the player.

“I have been asked personally by Jose Mourinho and Txiki Begiristain about Ianis Hagi, he said. “They wanted to know about him and how he was getting on.

“There’s a lot of top people in European football who know all about Ianis and what he can do.

“I happen to think Ianis is on a good plan at Rangers.

“I think Rangers will sign him because he is a player who has that little extra piece of creativity and skill.”
