Crusaders manager Stephen Baxter was not happy with his side's display in the 3-1 defeat to Cliftonville

“It’s funny because BJ Burns waltzes into the box and beats six men straight from the kick-off and you’re thinking we’ve started nicely and getting a bit of momentum – but then a few minutes later, you get a long throw into your box you don’t deal with and you’re 1-0 down.

“Then they get another breakaway, the ball comes in, Howard (Beverland) misses it and [Rory Donnelly] skips in on goal.

“Then we commit the cardinal sin of what Brian (Jensen) has done – the height of stupidity. Mentally, you’re beaten at that stage because that stupidity kills you.

“You need your key people playing well. Gavin Whyte has had an off-day, Philip Lowry and Declan Caddell have had off-days, three out of the back four had off-days and the goalkeeper hasn’t covered himself in glory.

“So we’d four, five, six players who just haven’t hit the mark but those players have been unbelievable this season.

“BJ (Burns) has probably been our worst player here but he’s been our best performer this season by a country mile – and that’s including Gavin Whyte – so you can’t be critical of these people.

“They’ve been unbelievable, they’ve just had a bad day.”
