Rowan McDonald: Coleraine successfully appeal red card brandished to versatile ace in Glentoran draw

Coleraine have confirmed they have been successful in their appeal against a red card given to Rowan McDonald.

The Englishman was given his marching orders by referee Shane Andrews in first half stoppage time last weekend following a tackle on Glentoran striker Pat Hoban.

Coleraine had the lead at that stage through Jamie McGonigle’s crisp finish but Glentoran responded to level the scores with a little more than ten minutes remaining through Jordan Stewart’s header.

After Hoban missed a penalty, the game finished 1-1 as the two title challengers had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Coleraine appealed the red card and confirmed on social media on Friday that they had been successful.

A post reads: “We can confirm that the club has been successful in our appeal regarding the dismissal of Rowan McDonald in last weekend's game against Glentoran.

“As a result, Rowan will now eligible to feature in tomorrow's clash at Dungannon Swifts.”
