SCOTTISH FOOTBALL: Rangers Josh Windass is hungry for more goals after scoring against Celtic

Scoring against Celtic was the best feeling Josh Windass has ever experienced and the Rangers forward is hungry for more goals.

Windass opened the scoring in last Sunday’s derby with an emphatic finish but Celtic went on to win 3-2 at Ibrox.

The defeat left Rangers nine points adrift of the Ladbrokes Premiership leaders having played a game more but Windass has plenty of targets left this season with the title seemingly out of reach.

The former Accrington player is determined to beat Celtic at Hampden next month and go on to win the William Hill Scottish Cup, while he has personal ambitions too.

Windass picked up the Ladbrokes Premiership player of the month award for February and set his sights on claiming the top goalscorer tag in the division.

Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd occupies top spot ahead of his team’s trip to Ibrox today with 14 league goals, with Windass on 12 and his Rangers team-mate Alfredo Morelos in between.

Speaking about his derby goal, Windass said: “For 20 minutes or however long it lasted it was the best feeling of my life scoring a goal in a game of that magnitude.

“I have been wanting to do it for a while. It took me a few attempts but hopefully I can carry it on and keep scoring until the end of the season.

“I was doing a show with Boydy the other week and we had a bit of banter about who is going to be top scorer so we are in a bit of a competition. As a personal note that’s my aim.

“I believed I could score goals playing in the right position and that’s been proven right over the second half of the season, so I’m hoping to carry it on and score even more. I enjoy playing any position but this position has given me licence to express my abilities and score more goals.”
