Singleton seals comeback win for Glenavon

The Swifts also finished the game with nine men with Douglas Wilson seeing red with eight minutes to go and then Jamie Glackin also saw red iin added time for a rash tackle on James Singleton.

It had all started so well for the visitors when they took the lead on 18 minutes but Glenavon battled back to earn the points.

Eoin Bradley thought he had given Glenavon the lead on six minutes after heading home from close range but Andy Hall had drifted offside to deliver the cross and the flag went up.

There was a lucky escape for the home side when Andrew Mitchell did well on the right side and crossed low into the box but the ball flew across the face of goal.

Joel Cooper did well to break clear and played a pass in behind for Bradley but he was offside.

The Swifts took the lead on 17 minutes, once again Glenavon conceding a soft goal as a long ball from goalkeeper Andy Coleman saw Tuffey come out to claim, he failed to hold onto the ball and when it fell to Ryan Harpur he guided a shot into the empty net.

Glenavon were back on level terms on 22 minutes after Bradley was pulled down in the box by David McCullouogh referee Mervyn Smyth pointed to the spot and Braniff sent Coleman the wrong way.

There was another big shout for a penalty two minutes later after Cooper was toppled over by Armstrong, but this time the ref waved play on.

The Lurgan Blues looked a much better team after their equaliser and Braniff went close before Hall skied over the bar after a great ball in from Cooper.

With just a minute to go to the break Glenavon took the lead when skipper Kris Lindsay came up for a free kick and when Hall’s cross came in he powered a header past Coleman.

There was early drama in the second half when a long ball from Dillon saw Bradley run clear and fire past Coleman but as the ball went into the net referee Smyth ruled it out for an infringement.

The game became scrappy for a spell but it was Glenavon who came closest to scoring again on 68 minutes with a lovely move as Singleton and sub Andy McGrory surged forrward, Bradley took over and back heeled for McGrory whose cross was headed just over by Braniff.

The two goal cushion the Lurgan Blues were looking for came on 80 minutes when a free kick in from Buckley was met by Singleton and the ball flew into the net.

Two minutes later Dungannon suffered another blow with defender Wilson shown a straight red for his challenge on Bradley.
