'The Goal' set to extend his Cliftonville stay as marksman puts pen-to-paper on contract extension
Cliftonville have been handed a boost with the news that Joe Gormley has agreed a new contract with the Reds.
The striker’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season but he is set to remain at the north Belfast side for the 2026/27 campaign.
Gormley is the club’s record goalscorer after notching up an eye-watering 309 strikes in 574 appearances since making his debut in a Europa League encounter with The New Saints back in 2011.
The 36-year-old left Solitude for a two-year stint between 2015-2017 but returned to Solitude and cemented his legendary status by becoming the club’s all-time top goalscorer in 2018 and passed the 300-goal barrier last season.

Unsurprising, Gormley, who is nicknamed as ‘The Goal’ was the club’s top goalscorer during the 2025/26 campaign.
It marks a busy end of season squad restructuring for Jim Magilton’s side after they missed out on European football after a play-off loss to Dungannon Swifts, in what the Cliftonville chief labelled as “an unacceptable performance”.
Cliftonville have already confirmed the departures of Micheál Glynn, Reece Jordan, Sean Robertson and Oisin Murray following the expiry of their contracts.
Meanwhile, loan agreements for Joe Toole, Josh Kelly and Kyle McClelland have all come to an end as they now make a return to their parent clubs Fleetwood Town, Glentoran and Glenavon respectively.
On Tuesday, Cliftonville also revealed that defender and fans’ favourite Jonny Addis would depart the north Belfast side following a five-year tenure since joining from Ballymena United.
