Tommy Wright's St Johnstone looking to derail Celtic bandwagon

There is of course a school of thought that might suggest that Ronny Deila’s men used up all of their goals in midweek and might struggle to find the net in their next game – but Wright will be taking nothing for granted, particularly as his own men have yet to notch a goal in 2016.

Indeed the last five games for the Perth men have produced not one solitary goal in a run that yielded just two points from a potential 12 as well as suffering elimination from the Scottish Cup at the hands of Kilmarnock.

The Ulsterman has a major selection problem to resolve with Rangers transfer target Michael O’Halloran omitted from last weekend’s goalless home draw with the self-same Hamilton.

It remains to be seen whether the forward will play any part on Saturday – or indeed whether a third offer from Ibrox will be forthcoming. Meanwhile midfielder Chris Millar is an injury absentee whilst on-loan Celtic youngster Darnell Fisher is unable to play against his parent club.

Deila is unlikely to make many changes from the side that overwhelmed Accies on Tuesday.

Scott Brown, Charlie Mulgrew and Ryan Christie remain unavailable as does Derryck Boyata whilst Tom Rogic is doubtful.

Meanwhile new signing Erik Sviatchenko from Denmark will be introduced to the home fans before kick-off but the central defender is unlikely to play.

The Norwegian boss was full of praise for his side’s clinical performance on Tuesday – but also realistic enough to acknowledge that no two games are the same.

“You can’t expect to score eight goals every week - but Tuesday’s performance was very, very good and it gives everybody a lot of confidence. It earned us three points - nothing more - but also improved our goal difference,” he said.

“Every game is important and if you’re going to win trophies you have to win games and keep on winning. The longer we go in the season the more crucial and important the games are.”
