The event was initially due to take place at Mount Juliet in Kilkenny until the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

With the Irish Government’s current restrictions in place in the Republic of Ireland, it is expected the event will be held in Northern Ireland from September 24-27, when competitors would be able to travel from the US Open to Galgorm without the need to quarantine.

Rory McIlroy has said he is unlikely to make the trip home to Northern Ireland, but the organisers will hope that McDowell and fellow major winner Shane Lowry will contest the event.
