It has been 18 months since Donnelly has sat behind the wheel of a competitive rally car, but he was impressed with the Mini after a short test run recently.

Other drivers in the top ten to look out for Alastair Fisher (Ford Fiesta WRC), Keith Cronin (Citroen DS3 R5), and the Moffett brothers Sam and Josh who have entered a pair of Ford Fiesta WRCs.

The opening special stages today are in the Letterkenny/Ballybofey area with servicing at the rear of the Clanree Hotel, while tomorrow the crews will tackle amongst others the awesome Knockalla Stage and on Sunday there are stages at Atlantic Drive and Fanad with the finish at the Mount Errigal Hotel.

The Donegal event is round five of the Clonakilty Black Pudding Irish Tarmac Rally Championship and Alastair Fisher currently tops the points table.
