ICE HOCKEY: Belfast Giants quartet selected for GB squad

A quartet of Belfast Giants players have been named in the Great Britain squad ahead of next month's Olympic pre-qualification tournament in Cortina, Italy.

Giants forwards Colin Shields, Jonathan Boxill and Craig Peacock have been included in the 22-man squad, with netminder Stephen Murphy also picked after returning from injury.

Great Britain will play hosts Italy plus Serbia and the Netherlands between February 11-14 with the winners progressing to the final qualifying stage for the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang in Korea.

The line-up includes 17 members of the squad who won a silver medal at the 2015 World Championship (Division 1B) in the Netherlands.

Host club Cortina will travel to Belfast during the tournament to play at the SSE Arena on Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13, when the Serie A side will take on the Giants in the ‘Olympic Series’ in the very first game between the two sides.
