ICE HOCKEY: Belfast Giants sign new player

The Belfast Giants have signed Spiro Goulakos for the 2017/18 season.

The defenceman is in his third season as a professional and joins the Giants after splitting the 2016/17 season between Hartford of the AHL and Greenville of the ECHL.

Last season Goulakos posted 15 goals and 21 assists, good for 36 points in 60 games.

A native of Montreal, QC, Goulakos played four years of NCAA hockey with Colgate University and Captained the team in both his Junior and Senior seasons. Spiro was named to the ECAC All-Tournament team in 2014/15 as well as the third All-Star team in 2013/14.

During his collegiate career, he earned 71 points, 22 goals and 49 assists, in 130 games. Goulakos was a teammate of new Giant Darcy Murphy during three seasons with Colgate.

Head Coach Adam Keefe said: “We were really excited to lock up Spiro Goulakos for the 2017/18 season.

“He plays with an edge and I know the Belfast fans are going to like watching Spiro in action.”
