Irish Open invitations for Campbell, Hume and Galbraith

Shane Lowry famously won the Irish Open as an amateur at Co Louth in 2009 and now Colm Campbell, Jack Hume and John-Ross Galbraith will have the chance to emulate him at The K Club.

Campbell, 29, was assured of his place at The K Club by virtue of his victory at the Flogas Irish Amateur Open Championship on Sunday (8 May). The Warrenpoint star will be joined by Walker Cup hero Jack Hume (22) from Naas and Whitehead’s John-Ross Galbraith (22), who is the reigning North of Ireland Champion.

As in previous years the GUI, through its close relationship with the European Tour, received three playing invitations for the Irish Open. These invitations give Ireland’s elite amateurs an invaluable opportunity to compete against the world’s best players.

“Not many amateurs get this chance. We’re very thankful to the European Tour for these invitations. I’m delighted for the players that they are getting this opportunity to put themselves up against the best in the world,” said Ireland senior captain Tony Goode.

Campbell edged out Hume by one shot to win this year’s Flogas Irish Amateur Open Championship at Royal Dublin. Hume won the South African Stroke Play Championship earlier this year and was a member of the Great Britain & Ireland team that won the Walker Cup at Royal Lytham & St Annes last September. Galbraith was Ireland’s anchor man during their victory at the Home Internationals in 2015.
