MEN'S HOCKEY: Banbridge strengthen grip on third spot in league

Banbridge strengthened their grip on third place in the EY Hockey League thanks to a late blitz against Annadale.

Bann looked in a spot of bother against the bottom placed side at 2-2 with 15 minutes to go before Eugene Magee – with his third of the game – Bruce McCandless and Jonny McKee score in quick succession for a 5-2 result.

Meanwhile, Cookstown produced the performance of the day to escape the relegation places for the first time since October with a 4-0 win over Cork C of I who drop to ninth place.

Simon Todd and Ryan Millar built a 2-0 half-time lead and, after a C of I fightback, the Co Tyrone side finished strong with Millar and Jon Ames scoring the closing six minutes to ensure the points.

Lisnagarvey moved within one win of the regular season title and a European spot thanks to their 3-2 win over Pembroke. Two goals in quick succession from Mikey Watt built a half-time lead that Andy Williamson extended before Pembroke rallied with late goals from Harry Spain and Eric Foy to reduce the gap.

Elsewhere, Glenanne earned a hard-fought 2-0 win over Three Rock Rovers while Railway Union suffered a 1-0 defeat to Monkstown.

The EYHL returns on April 2.
