Adult champions crowned at MRA annual awards dinner as Mourne Motorcycle Club present charity cheques

The MRA annual awards dinner was held at the Crowne Plaza in Belfast, where all the 2025 adult champions were crowned.

Lisburn’s Paul Edgar was crowned Premier Quad Champion and was delighted to secure his first title. Edgar plans to defend his crown next year but also intends to explore new competitions in 2026.

“I was pleased to win my first Ulster Championship, and I have a busy year planned in 2026," he said. "Certainly, I will defend my Ulster title, but I also aim to compete in possibly a full season of British Championship racing."

Winning his first Ulster Quad Championship wasn’t easy as the final round of the championship coincided with his holiday.

He explained: “I was in Turkey and had to fly home to compete at Tinker Hill before flying back after the meeting as champion.

"I only needed to complete all three races to secure the championship, but it's never that straightforward. My bike broke down in race one; however, I clinched the title with two wins in the final races."

One of the rising stars in quad racing, Coleraine’s Travis Toye, was crowned Semi-Expert champion and finished third in the Premier class.

“I wasn't expecting to do so well, but obviously delighted to do so,” said the 16-year-old.

Toye will race in next year's Ulster Championship but also aims to compete across the water in the British Championship.

Niall Cregan was crowned Ulster Experts MX1 champion, with Nathan Green and Ryan Adair finishing second and third. David Anderson secured the Semi-Expert title ahead of Ross Mackin and Mark Dougherty, while Andrew Boyd took the Clubmans title, where Seamus Young and James Milligan finished in second and third place.

Paul Edgar won the Ulster Quad Premier title from David Cowan and Travis Toye, with Toye claiming the Semi-Experts title from Paul Murphy and Mitchell Adams.

Mathew Wilson was the Clubmans champion, with Padraig McNulty and Martin McVey completing the top three. In the sidecar class, Jonathan Wilson and Andrew Rowan were crowned champions. Andy McKibbin and Fintan Murray finished as runners-up, with Cameron and Kyi Addis in third place.

The Mourne Motorcycle Club organised their latest charity motocross event during the summer, raising £3,000.

The funds were shared between the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team (MMRT) and Slieve Croob Community First Responders (SCCFR).

The SCCFR received their cheque in August, and the Mourne club recently caught up with members of the MMRT at the Millbrook Lodge Hotel, Ballynahinch, to present them with their cheque for £1,500.

Speaking after the presentation, Paddy McCartan discussed the vital work of the MMRT: “We are 100% volunteers, 24/7, no matter the weather or conditions, you can always call on the mountain rescue.

"It could be a line rescue or a high mountain rescue. It could be for a farmer or a walker. We’re always there to help out. The money will go towards new gear for team members, new kit for rescues, and towards the base.

"We truly appreciate the donation, and on behalf of myself and the Board, I want to express my sincerest thanks to everyone involved and to all who donated. It’s a genuine pleasure to connect and spend time with groups like the MMC. That’s what community is all about, and we really wouldn’t be here without groups like yours."
