Cookstown 100: Red flag in Saturday Superbike race at Orritor with Michael Dunlop leading Michael Sweeney
Saturday’s Open Superbike race at the Cookstown 100 was red-flagged after the leaders completed six laps with Michael Dunlop ahead of Michael Sweeney.
It is understood the rider involved was not seriously hurt in the incident.
Dunlop had taken the lead from pole on his MD Racing BMW but was unable to break away from Sweeney (MR BMW) as they set a hot pace around the Orritor course in the sunshine.
However, outright lap record holder gradually Dunlop began to edge ahead and had pulled a gap of 0.879s over Sweeney when they crossed the line to complete the sixth lap.

The red flag went out moments later, stopping the race.
Darryl Tweed from Ballymoney was holding third ahead of Marcus Simpson before the red flag went out.
Friday’s Open Superbike Invitational race was red-flagged on the seventh lap, with Dunlop declared the winner over Sweeney.
Donegal’s Caomhan Canny crashed on the Scott Racing Aprilia in the evening race but was not seriously injured.
Dunlop won Saturday’s Moto3 race on the Burrows Engineering/RK Racing Honda for a double at the Co Tyrone meeting.
