David Allingham and his Eglinton team have 'proved a lot of people wrong' this season as Ulster rider on brink of winning National Superstock 1000 title

Eglinton’s David Allingham can fulfil his dream of becoming the British Superstock 1000 champion this weekend at Brands Hatch in Kent.

Allingham hasn’t put a foot wrong all season, winning nine of the 14 races held so far and maintaining an unbroken run of podium finishes throughout the 2026 season.

He leads English contender Luke Mossey by 42 points with two more races to go and could be crowned after Saturday afternoon’s 15-lap opener, which is scheduled to start at 2:35pm.

On Friday, Allingham was second fastest in free practice by less than three tenths of a second to Mossey, who has vowed he won’t let the Ulsterman have things “his own way” this weekend.

However, Allingham has been a model of consistency all year on the SMS/Nichol Oils BMW and holds his destiny in his hands.

The 31-year-old won both races earlier in the season at Brands and is a formidable force on his BMW M1000RR.

“The BMW M1000RR in my eyes is the best package now in the Superstock championship,” Allingham said.

“We were told at the start of the year that the Honda would be better at some of the tracks, more nimble and stuff, but I feel like we’ve proved a lot of people wrong in the paddock.

“When I started the year, I think there was only two or three BMWs, but there’s now a lot more guys on the grid now on BMWs.

“I think slowly but surely they’re starting to realise how good the BMW is.

“I just want to thank my team because they’ve been fantastic all year. I get to ride the motorcycle and I’m lucky, but the boys are always working hard every weekend to find another tenth here or another tenth there.

“We’ve been able to challenge the big teams in England, some with manufacturer support, and we’re a just a small group of people from Eglinton.

“The big picture is the title but sometimes you’re best not trying to change too much and just going out and trying to win.”

Mossey conceded that the championship was all but over after the penultimate round a fortnight ago at Donington Park, but he pledged to make Allingham “suffer” this weekend.

“I can’t take nothing away from him, he’s ridden well all year and full credit to him and his team, but it was so nice to get another win,” he said.

“I think now, realistically, the championship is a bit out of reach now but we’re going to make him suffer, he’s not going to have it all his own way.”

In the British Superbike Championship, Kyle Ryde is aiming to win the title for a record-equalling third season and was fastest in Pre-Qualifying on Friday.
